At the far end of the lake, the Emerald Basin Trail branches off and begins a steady climb through a lush subalpine forest. The ascent is moderate but rewarding, eventually revealing a vast, glacially-carved amphitheater surrounded by hidden waterfalls and rugged cliffs.
Once you reach the Emerald Basin, you’ll find yourself in a quiet, secluded valley where remnants of ancient glaciers still linger. This is the perfect spot to have a lunch break and reflect before heading back to complete the Emerald Lakeshore trail.

Must do while in Banff! Our tour guide, Anikah, was spectacular! She was SO knowledgeable about the history of the locations, packed us warm drinks at Moraine, and was so well equipped with ponchos, blankets, snacks, and everything we needed. The van was super comfortable and so easy. If you’re thinking about taking this tour, we’d highly recommend. Highlight of our trip!
We stayed a week in Banff and took two tours with Explore Banff. We were very fortunate to have Brooke as our guide both times. She was very knowledgeable and helpful. The vehicles for the tours were clean and spacious. Overall, we had a wonderful time! I would absolutely take another tour with Explore Banff!
